Winthrop Hospital's new Cancer Center for Kids opens
On a snowy day in February 2006, Colin Conaty, then 20 months old, was diagnosed with brain cancer. That same day, he underwent his first brain surgery, one of six over the next year.
Colin, of Massapequa, now 3, had his tumor removed in May 2007 by Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff at the New York University Hospital, followed by 36 straight days of radiation.
Yesterday, the toddler with floppy blond hair was one of more than 200 who formed a "lifeline" to celebrate the official opening of the Cancer Center For Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital.
